Travel Destination 1: La Digue Island, Inner Islands, Seychelles

5 facts and information:

~La Digue takes its name from one of the vessels in explorer Marion Dufresne's fleet, sent by the French to explore Seychelles' granitic islands in 1768

~While Seychelles has forged ahead to join the ranks of the world’s developed nations – and today boasts the health, education and communications infrastructure to prove it – La Digue nonetheless managed to retain the Creole identity and traditions which have created its unique, island way of life.

~One of the most visited sites on La Digue is the L'Union Estate situated on the southern end of the island. An old plantation house is the centrepiece of the estate, which is flanked by a giant granite boulder, a large pen where Seychelles' giant tortoises roam and a spacious paddock for the estate's horses.

~The Aldabra Giant Tortoise can be found on La Digue. These giant lumbering beasts, which can live for centuries, can be spotted across the island, but are most easily found, enjoying the sun and languidly munching the nearest vegetation, in their large pen in the L’Union Estate Plantation.

~Anse Coco - the most isolated, stunning and unspoilt beach on La Digue. It can be reached on foot either via Grand Anse and Petit Anse or, for the more adventurous, by trekking across the island via Nid'Aigle. The perfect beach for rest, relaxation and solitude.
